Untitled design (40)Join the SSIG (Student Special Interest Group), a diverse and welcoming community for physical therapy students interested in women’s and men’s health, and a way to connect and grow professionally. From those who are first hearing of women’s and men’s health physical therapy to those who started PT school knowing this was their passion, all are encouraged to join.

How To Join:

To join Section on Women’s Health, please visit If you are an APTA member already, the SOWH membership fee is $25/year for students. Upon joining, you automatically become part of the SoWH SSIG.

Eligibility for Joining the Student SIG Community:

  1. You must be a current SoWH Student Member
  2. Current Student in an accredited PT program

Student SIG 2017 Achievement Metrics

  • SoWH student membership increased by 14% in 2017
  • Advocated for the creation of over $11,000 in student scholarships to continuing education courses in 2018
  • Hosted networking events for current and prospective students at CSM, NSC and NEXT
  • Hosted monthly research discussions with experts in the field
  • Collaborated with residency directors to create comprehensive resources about the unique residency programs across the country
  • Recorded video interviews with 7 women’s health residency programs to share with prospective residents
  • Organized a PT Pub Night as a fundraiser for Global Women’s Health Initiative, which included a raffle and silent auction”
  • Secured a spot for the Global Women’s Health Initiative as the recipient of the money collected from PT Pub Night Check-in Challenge for the 2nd quarter of 2018
